This doesn't make me look paranoid...

I didn't feel paranoid when I bought this:

After all, I studied it out and 25 lb. buckets are a good way for me to store my grains.

I didn't feel paranoid when I bought this:

After all, if I'm going to buy a lot of cans, I should make an effort to track and rotate them.

I didn't feel paranoid when I bought this:

After all, my family eats a lot of meat and it actually is cost effective (and more healthy) to buy it in bulk. Plus, Peter was able to choose the cuts as he wrapped the cow we had butchered.

I didn't feel paranoid when I bought this:

After all, if I'm going to store wheat, I need to grind it.

But, in the deepest part of my soul, I couldn't help but feel slightly paranoid when I added this to the bottom of my wheat grinder order:

But what else am I going to do when civilization ends, there is no more electricity and I am feeding my family with food I have stockpiled in my basement? Now, if you'll excuse me, I am going to go get my tinfoil hat and research buying and hiding gold coins.

P.S. I totally photoshopped the wheat grinder to remove dirty spots only to realize it would have taken me less time to actually wash the spots off.

  1. Actually, spots on the wheat grinder would've been MOST impressive because that means you actually use it!

Obama is gonna allow the AMT to come back into play so get ready to lose the deductions for having those cute kids! If that doesn't make you paranoid . . .

  2. I am so jealous of the shelves, the wheat grinder, the buckets and the basement to put them in! (and I would have just gotten a picture off the internet :)

  3. You're not paranoid - you're living the dream!!!!
Good for you! I have total basement envy right now.

  4. I have total basement envy as well. Although I would just like to have a basement first. That would be a huge improvement. Then I could store all that stuff. I also love that you photoshopped instead of washed. It sounds like something I would have done as well!

  5. I'm so jealous of your shelf reliance shelving. I've been coveting it for a long time but for now (and for a long time until Ricky decides to become a real doctor) we just pile up all the food storage on metal shelving. Not pretty but whatever. Good job using your wheat grinder. I love our Whisper Mill but Catherine does not.

  7. I love it! Since we now live in a place with a basement, we have plenty of room for food storage. We don't have shelves as nice as yours (though I have made my case on more than one occasion why we need them) but it's so exciting to go downstairs and look at my shelves of food. Don't tell anyone, but sometimes I go down just to look at the food and how nicely it's all arranged on our shelves. It makes me feel better about life and feel better about the rest of my house not being as organized!

  8. uh, so does learning what kind of wild plants to eat, how to make my own soap, and learning how to make a fire using only sticks make me look paranoid? When the world does end, I want to live in the same tent neighborhood as y'all!

  9. I plan on dying a slow painfully hungery death. That is one downside to moving A LOT and not wanting to haul around tons of food storage.

  14. I'll be interested to see which of us runs out of meat first. Have you tried your hand crank grinder yet? We bought one way back when. It took about 10 minutes to make 1/4 cup of "flour". I probably would have done better with a knive. I decided when the world ends I'll just suck on my wheat berries. Yours looks better than mine though so I'll come hang out with you and help you bake bread over the firepit.

  15. I'm jealous that you got a Shelf Reliance system. They are based in Orem, and I went to their outlet to see their systems. What a great idea! I ended up building my own smaller version and the rest is stacked on shelves the old fashioned way.
