There is a good reason I don't Blow Dry my hair.

I have trouble with my hair. Mostly due to the fact that I was given more than my fair share. This may sound like a good problem to have, but think it through. Remember banana clips? I could never wear them. Most regular clips can only hold the smallest fraction of my mane. Rubber bands constantly break when I attempt ponytails.

There are more difficulties- like the fact that it takes two boxes to dye my hair, if I grow it too long it gives me headaches, and shaving my legs is like mowing down a small forest. That's right, thick hair grows on more than just my head. It is on my arms, my legs, my face. I bet an MRI would show hair growing on most major organs.

Which is why I rarely attempt to blow dry it. The last thing I need is to add body to my hair. But while in North Carolina my sister wanted to attempt to tame my locks. So I blow dried it, and took a picture to show you I am not exaggerating (much). This is why I usually let my hair air dry:

  1. Hahahaha, I am keeping that picture to use at some large family gathering in the future. Maybe blow it up, poster size?

Have you ever tried a flat iron? My hair looks very similar to that just after I blow dry it (especially when it's short!) but after a little work with the flat iron it is smooth and small. But it doesn't surprise me you have thick hair, Barlow does too and I hope he passes it on to our kids!

  4. So where is the pic after it is tamed?

I agree with Andrea. Try a flat iron, but DON'T get a cheap one at Wal mart. They suck! Go get a nice ceramic one at a beauty supply store. They cost more, but they are 100% worth it. (Tiffany likes the CHI brand, I use a ION brand and it works great, but I have thinner hair then Tiff)

  5. That is amazing! Does your hair have a name? It looks big enough to have its own personality :)

  6. I know about flat irons! They are really my only hope. Tami did a good job taming it, I guess I should have taken an after picture.

And ucmama- it doesn't need any encouragement, don't provoke it; its personality is definitely rebellious and teasing.

  7. Oh, I don't know. I think it looks pretty good.
I have very thick hair an so tend to keep it short or it is just to difficult to deal with.

  8. Hmm. I'm heading to North Carolina on Tuesday. Do you think my hair will look like this?

  9. My hair was pretty gnarly in the VA weather...I stopped trying to blow dry it too, but it's not nearly that thick, so you have my sympathies!

  10. I have really thick hair too. I have to use two boxes of hair die most of the time but now that my hair is a little shorter I can get by with one.

Flat irons work really good. They have some that you can use while your hair is still wet so you hit two birds with one stone.

  11. I want to see what Tami did to finish the project. She works wonders.

  12. I feel your hairy pain. It takes me forever to blowdry my hair, so I just don't bother. It takes me forever to flat iron it, so I usually don't. If I do 'do' my hair, Andy always asks what the special occasion is. :)

  13. I didn't know I was the only one who avoided blow drying my hair. To keep the frizz out (as much as possible) I usually pull it into a tight ponytail the day I wash it. Then flat iron it the next day. Then don't wash it again as long as possible.

And Michael, never underestimate the power of North Carolina humidity. It can achieve miracles.
