Christmas Decorations (I'd like to claim temporary insanity)

Ever have a great idea that then becomes a teeny tiny bit of an obsession?  My cousin's wife gave me the idea for the ornament wreath and making it somehow gave me a bug.  A make all homemade ornaments this year bug.  I'm happy with the results (although I lack the photography skills to give it justice).

Homemade Ornaments:

Paper Triangle Balls:

Snowflakes:
(I made these a decade ago, but homemade all the same!)

Gingerbread Men (& Women):

Popcorn Garland:

The Wreath that Started It:

Bought this (but it took 3 years to figure out how to get it to stay on the top of the tree):

I'm thinking of posting tutorials these ornaments (wreath tutorial here), since most are a conglomeration of lots of google searching.

I'm finished now.  Except a Christmas banner and possibly these trees

  3. Absolutely beautiful! I love the homemade decorations. I need to do more of that with my kids (brushes off the Mommy guilt).

I wanna make that wreath! I love those ornament wreaths but wasn't sure how to make them happen.

  4. Oh man, I really like it. Some day I will like my tree. I love the angel on top. My circles did turn out much bigger than yours by the way, but my snowflakes are surprisingly similar.....

  5. When we first got married we only had a couple of ornaments for our tree (read: one sand dollar that my grade teacher made into an ornament for me in 1987 and some little wooden bear that played the trumpet) so we decorated our tree almost exclusively with those snowflakes. This is the first year there's no room for them on the tree. In our last house I strung them with invisible thread and hung them from the ceiling so it looked like it was snowing (sort of) but there's no good place here to hang them where Rob won't run into them.

I convinced Rob that we should get a real tree this year (then lent our friends our fake tree with a note that if anything happened to it so they couldn't return it I really wouldn't be upset). I had forgotten how wonderful they smell!

Your tree really is pretty. Do your little ones leave it alone? I dream of the day I can put up a tree, decorate it and no one feels the need to redecorate it!

  6. My kids are older now, the oldest is at BYU, and I miss those 'little kid Christmases. Other blogs talked about the tradition where each child gets a new ornament every year (or makes one). My parents did this, and sometimes they were very inexpensive, handmade ornaments. But when I got married I had a little box with at least twenty ornaments to hang on my tree and they were meaningful!

  13. I forgot how much I miss my popcorn-and-cranberry garlands...until I remembered how crumbly they get after a few years. But you have at least four or five years that it will look good!

BTW, if you seriously find time to make some sequin trees, then you clearly have too much time on your hands, which I know is IMPOSSIBLE. So at that point, the insanity wouldn't be temporary, and we'd have to commit you. Cute idea though.

  18. Paper triangle balls look pretty cool. We always try to look for decorating ideas in off season because everything gets so crowded and espensive after Halloween. Cool stuff
