Sometimes I am a Fairytale

Sometimes I am
the dragon.
Angry and irritated.
Looking to bite off your head
If you look at me wrong.
Fire breathing, untouchable,
Growling.

Sometimes I am
the knight.
Loyal and brave.
Ready to take on the world
As nothing can stop my progress
Righting wrongs, building my kingdom,
Strong.

Sometimes I am
the damsel
Distressed and frightened.
Trapped in an inescapable place
Looking for an escape.
Struggling, hoping,
Waiting.

Sometimes I am
the wizard.
Wise and magical.
Coming up with solutions
That take the kingdom by surprise.
Thinking, experimenting,
Creating.

Sometimes I am
the fairy.
Chaotic and flighty.
Flitting from place to place
Leaving everything half done.
Quick, fun,
Busy.

I am
my fairytale
In the kingdom of my home.
I play all the roles.
Making memories
To become legends later.
Finding joy in my tale.

What fairytale roles do you find yourself playing from time to time?

I was thrilled to receive the Happy 101 Blogger Award from Linda of Bar Mitzvahzilla.   Her blog is an absolute joy to read, and I am glad we met each other in cyberworld.

As odd as it may seem, I enjoy in my hectic life where I get to play so many roles.  It is fun sometimes even to be the dragon.  After all, without the hard times, the wonderful ones wouldn't feel so grand.

As part of the award I get to pass it along to another blogger who I brings happiness to my blogging experience.  I  choose Amber of Making the Moments Count.  If you ever wondered what my life was like a decade ago, I swear reading her blog is like looking back in time.  (Except, I'm pretty sure I wasn't as articulate or entertaining. )   I love reading her insights into life.

  1. Cute metaphors...I like metaphors, analogies, parables...in the case of fairytales, I've been the fairy godmother, and the Witch...just ask my teenagers.

  2. I love this, Charlotte! You know I appreciate a good metaphor - so what a delight to find a whole series of them in one post. I think we mothers all play the roles you describe; my personal goal is to increase my Knight and decrease my Dragon.

P.S. My word verification is "messes." How can Blogger see the state of my house right now?!

    What else can I say?

  6. I love this! I saw it on Twitter and had to hop over and tell you that I relate to all of them. Is that too much...it can't be because moms wear so many hats right? I guess right now...I am...a damsel. But hopefully soon I will be the wizard.

You are a great writer and incredibly creative. Congrats on your award!

  7. Sometimes I feel like the wicked stepmother, even though I gave birth to these two creatures in the house, because they act like I'm the big meanie all the time, like when I ask them to clean.

And yesterday I felt just a little bit like a princess when my husband asked me if I'd like to go buy myself a "shiny rock" (that's what he calls a diamond) for our anniversary.

You deserve the 101 award, Charlotte. You do make me happy, and you're also right about Amber, she is amazing.

  8. This is pretty cool, Charlotte.

I'm pretty sure that I'm mostly the grumpy old troll that lives under the bridge. But that doesn't sound nearly as poetic. :)

  10. I think I have been the Damsel in Distress for too long now.

I love to read your writing, it never fails to make me smile. : )

Thank you for the award! I do hope in 10 years I will be where you are!

  11. I love this, in particular the repetition of that one lonely and loaded word "sometimes." We all do play an infinity of roles. I adore the idea of commandeering the traditional notion of a fairytale and making it real. Despite the compelling chaos, because of it maybe, we are each living our own fairy tale. Brilliant.

  13. Oooo, I love this. Sometimes I am the damsel and the knight all in one day. Can you say schizophrenic fairytale?

  14. I love this! What interesting, introspective way to look at your life. I can relate to do much of it.
Congrats on your award! And good choice with Amber!

  15. I love this, such a unique way of talking about your different sides. I'm totally a wizard, fairy, sleeping beauty, and on a really bad day, a witch. L-)

  16. I don't think I've ever seen anyone describe motherhood so clearly! This is exquisite. I like it so much I swear I'm printing it and posting it on my cork bord at work. Whatever I post there helps me get throug the day. Well done!
