You have to SEE THIS

Thunderstorms have become a favorite in our house. I have been wanting to get some pictures what they look like from our bedroom. I need to work on my lightening picture taking technique (try that Fox in Socks!), but this is what I got tonight:

Sorry about the blinking light in the video clip, I will work on that too. I tried opening the door, but it was too windy (and wet and cold). After 76 photos taken to get 7 useable, I realized a video clip might work better.

  1. Amazing stuff! I love storms over the ocean - of course, I have to go much farther than my bedroom window to see one!

  3. We had a REALLY bad thunderstorm last night, and I've decided lightning is much cooler when you can watch it on a video, not curled up in a ball, rocking back and forth with your eyes closed, waiting to get struck.

What is that curved line in the ocean in all the pics? Is that just a wave?

  4. I love big storms. Big storms are some of my favorite memories as a kid

  5. That curve is the sandbar- it was in between high and low tide so it is about half its largest size (at high tide it completely disappears)

  6. I LOVE the rain. We were getting ready to go to bed last night and had our blinds open to watch the lightning. It was dry lightning for a long time and we saw a fire start, so we called 911. It actually went out on its own, but we saw two more start and stop from lightning. We went to our upstairs window to watch when our two oldest woke up scared. We all watched it for about 1/2 an hour. It was really cool. We had one hit close enough that it surged our power out for a few seconds.

  7. Those photos are really cool. My high school physics teacher explained once that photos of lightning are difficult to get because the human reaction time is too slow. (He used to be a weatherman, and had a collection of lightning photos he'd taken.) We haven't had any great thunderstorms this summer, but I'll just be grateful for the rain that comes very occasionally. You're lucky! Does CT ever get hurricanes?

  10. These were so cool! Good job getting these shots. When we lived by the beach our first year there, I remember being able to hear the waves crash during storms and thought that was pretty neat. Weather is incredible.

  11. Barlow, I tried that you silly. The video I got when I tried didn't get included, but you could still see the light (not as bright) blinking. Have to get more creative.

  12. Even though you said something before hand about the light I kept thinking what in the world in the red light out on the waves. It keeps moving. Is is part of the storm? Anyway I realize what it is now. The pics are beautiful!

  13. The pictures are great. It would have taken me even longer to think of the video clip. I don't like lightening storms they are scary.

  14. I hate when I have blinking lights like that. I just cover them with a piece of duct tape or something like that.

We never get that kid of lightning out here.
