Halloween is coming . . .

Halloween is coming, and while I work in this year's costumes, take a look at Halloweens of the past. This was 2005 . . .

Peter (Obi Won), Ryan (Vader/Anakin), Elise (Leia), and Joseph (Yoda) wore handmade costumes.

I bought mine (Amidala), Ethan's (Darth Maul) and Kirsti's (Chewbacca), although in the little picture I handpainted Ethan's face.

I did not have a good experience purchasing costumes and decided to go back to all homemade after this year.

  1. I was TOTALLY going to do a past halloween costumes post to show off the hard work I did on costumes before the world of blogging entered my life. I LOVED the Star Wars costumes. I like the family themes also! Can't wait for this years pictures.

  3. Can I just say that you are AMAZING? Seriously. My kids are going pretty easy on me this year, but still, I have to go brave the Wal-Mart madness to find costumes that will please the kids, but aren't too hard on my bank account. I have a big box of Halloween costumes and accessories, but none of it seems to get used more than once. Argh - I hate Halloween. Bah humbug.

  4. Charlotte: I always enjoy seeing what your family dresses up as for Halloween. My family NEVER bought costumes when we were kids - we just used things we had around the house. It helps that my folks lived in the same house almost all of my life, my grandma worked at this great thrift store and my sister and I collected a plethora of dance costumes over the years. Here I don't have much to work with, but I'm determined not to buy a costume this year. Camille has this beautiful black tutu that she wore for my sister's wedding so I'm trying to convince her to be Odile from Swan Lake, but I'm not having any luck because she doesn't want to be the bad guy. Right now, believe it or not, she is talking about being Spider Girl and wearing Caleb's old Spider Man costume. I figure it's quick and easy so I think we're going to roll with that. Chloe gets to choose between Caleb's old doggie costume and Camille's old ladybug costume, depending on which one she tolerates best. I have no idea what Caleb is going to be. We're going to have to get VERY creative! I can't wait to see what the Laters are this year!

  5. That is great. I might even be inspired to think over the next year about something- a theme that our whole family could incorporate. Maybe next year I could take some inspiration from you. Very cute!!!

  6. Every year we say we are going to do the Star Wars thing. I have been told that we should have named Alita, Leia. They were born the year episode 3 came out. Maybe next year we will do it.
